Tony’s Tip 1 and 2 — Park at the edge & Take it slow!

One way to burn a few extra calories without a lot of extra effort is to park at the edge of the parking lot.  Every parking lot. Every time.  At work, when you go shopping, when you go to the movie, when stopping off at the corner convenience store.   The extra few steps every time you get out of your car, will add up over time, burning calories, and providing fitness benefits.

Tip No. 2 — Rome wasn’t built in a day — Take it slow!

Make small changes, one at a time.  Keep focused on the specific change until that “change” becomes a “habit”.

Now, do it in combination…

IParking Lotf you are like me, the idea of parking at the edge of a parking lot and trudging through the Texas Heat at every single parking lot I use,  lugging my 130 plus extra pounds of fat… well, that idea is NUTS.

And not just a itty bit of nuts…

We’re talking out-of-your-ever-lovin’-flippin’-wacked-out-mind, bargan-sale-on-jumbo-sized-can-of-mixed-nuts-on-Christmas-Eve kind of NUTS! 

Sweet Baby GEEZ-SUS please save me from the heart attack and/or heat stroke that I would get if I started out by parking at the very edge of every parking lot I use!

OMG!!!! Somebody call 911 now because I’m gonna need it.

My heart rate is going up just THINKING about walking from the edge of the parking lot into my local, neighborhood Walgreens.  And that’s not a very big lot!  And that’s just ONE lot I use!  Eeeeeeek!

Ok, maybe I’m being a wee bit melodramatic.  But admit it, you know what I’m talking about… right?  😀   And what is a post from me without Drama?  Hmmmm?

But . . .

What if . . .

…instead setting a goal of parking at the EDGE of the parking lot which is NUTS given my present state of fitness . . .

…I, instead start out with a goal of parking at the “first open spot I come to at the end of the parked cars”, well that I can do!

So, instead of driving past all those open slots and trying to find the closest spot to the door of the store (Walgreens for example), I instead take the first open slot I come to, at the edge of all the parked cars.

And when that becomes a HABIT, Part of my normal routine, and easy to do… then I change the goal to “park halfway between the last car in the row” and the edge of the parking lot.

And when that becomes a HABIT, Part of my normal routine, and easy to do… then I finally change the goal to “park at the EDGE” of the parking lot”

TahDah!
