Where to start? So much news to share…
One of the hardest things about writing and/or blogging, is deciding on just what to write about and how much to write. Ideas are always popping into my head. I have a post-it note program on my Mac that I use to jot down ideas about topics as they occur in an attempt to stay organized.
Sometimes I even start a post then save it as a draft to finish later. We will not even begin to discuss how many of those I have saved in draft mode waiting for me to return and finish the post… sigh
And then I have a week like the one just past, so chock full of stuff that it generates even MORE ideas!

[Hmmmm…I think I need some liquid fortification…]
“Oh waiter! YoooooHoooo! A chocolate martini! Stat!“
…..ssssslllllluuuuurrrrrrpppp…. Ahhhhh! That’s better.
Now, where was I? A lot happened this week.
Since I have been accused of digression in posts past, I am determined to turn over a new leaf. Plus, that chocolate martini is gonna get warm if I don’t make this quick. 😉
Therefore, for the ultra-minimalist crowd:

Tsk-tsk-tsk You guys should know better than ask me for “more” — Brevity is not a strong point of mine… but I’m gonna try.
How’s this then?
Body fat can be measured in several different ways:
- Biopsy This is a medical procedure which requires sticking a large needle into your body, kinda like a geologist doing a core sample. The sample of muscle and tissue is analyzed and the percentage of body fat to muscle along with a whole host of other tests can be performed to determine whether you are world athlete potential or not.
Since I already know I’ll never be in the next Michael Phelps or win the Tour de France, AND I hate large needles, I decided that I wouldn’t pursue this option. Did I mention that it’s very expensive? It is, however, the most exact method.
- A host of new fangled TECH-KNOWL-E-GEES with jaw breaking names:
• DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry)
• NIR (Near Infrared Interactance)
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
• Total Body Electrical Conductivity (TOBEC)
• Computed Tomography (CT)
I’ll spare you the gory details about how all these work. If you’re really interested, you can visit this cool page I found at the University of Vermont where they have this interactive tutorial that talks about some of them. Basically when all is said and done, they all have pluses and minuses. And any number you get back is basically an estimate. A very expensive estimate. And since I’m a workin’ man and can’t afford any of these expensive high-tech ways to tell me just how fat I am, we’ll move on to some options that a regular middle class fella can afford.
