Some Cool Calculators from the US Military
I stumbled across a website that had a bunch of calculators and just had to share it with you guys, dear readers, all 12 of you who are actually reading this blog.
It is www.healthstatus.com and I found it on a Google Search. I didn’t try all the Health Calculators they have but I did try out three of them:
Army Body Fat Calculator (www.healthstatus.com)
I filled in the little blanks and this calculator gave me a figure of 41.85 %. Today, my daily average was 41.38 using electrical impedance method. Not too far off and well within the 1-3% disclaimer on the webpage with the calculator.
Navy Body Fat Calculator (www.healthstatus.com)
This one gave me a figure of 41.37 %. My daily average today was 41.38. Wow!
Marine Body Fat Calculator (www.healthstatus.com)
This one gave me a figure of 41.75 % My daily average today was 41.38. Pretty close!
Curious as to what the formula looked like I did some web searching and found an article at About.com: United States Military Body Fat Standards. Check it out. It is worth a read.
Here (brace yourself friends and neighbors) is the formula:
For males:
% body fat = 86.010 x log10(abdomen – neck) – 70.041 x log10(height) + 36.76.
For females:
% body fat = 163.205 x log10(waist + hip – neck) – 97.684 x log10(height) – 78.387.
I also found another set of calculators over at http://www.bizcalcs.com/#HealthCalculator Check them out as well!
Enjoy!
See ya on the dance floor!
