Once more dear friends…

Mea Maxima Culpa

Good Me-Bad Me ©2011Yes, I know this blog is supposed to be mainly about me getting healthy again.

Yes, I know that I’ve been on and off the “live healthy” wagon so often that I should be getting frequent flyer miles (if I mix my metaphors momentarily) << say that aloud it sounds cool!

Yes, I know that I have been very much NOT blogging of late.

sigh

So I’m going to share some stuff with you which I’ve been doing this morning.  I’m doing this “stuff” this “morning” because my THIRD monthly visit with my most awesome doctor: Karen King is fast approaching and I want to be able to truthfully tell her that I’ve begun the very long process to get healthy again.  Woot!

When I went on my first visit to her back at the beginning of May, I told her that I needed help getting healthy and asked her to put me on a medically supervised weight loss plan.  Which basically amounts to coming in every month to weigh in and have her give me a mini-check up and monitor things so that I don’t actually end up doing myself injury as I try and get healthy.

I have Type 2 Diabetes

Hi, my name is Tony.  I’m a Diabetic.

Kinda scary actually.  I freaked a little bit when I found out.

Tony’s Take on: MintVine

MintVine – How ALL Survey Sites should work!

First the “Cowboy Star” Rating:

4.5 stars from TxCowboyDancer

I know that I’m wordy… …so if all you need is the stars
then here’s the link to sign up with MintVine

However, if you want more info then keep reading.  🙂

Fair warning:  this review is long because

(1) it is my first review of a survey site and I wanted to talk about “what makes a good survey site” and

(2) I’ve never said anything in all my life using five words when five hundred would do.  So brace yerself Effie, it’s gonna be a bumpy (but fun and weird) ride!  LOL

MintVine is almost The “Gold Standard”
in “What I want in a Survey Site”

Mintvine-LogoLet’s face it.  I’m doing online surveys for the money.  Not for fun.  Not to “improve products” not to better mankind…  I live on a small pension plus whatever I can scrape together through half-a-dozen different means, including taking online surveys.

Don’t misunderstand me.  I’m not just randomly clicking answers, I actually do read the questions and try to do a “good job” by answering honestly, but when all is said and done, I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t PAID for my time.

So, like any other “job” that is “just a job” — I’m in it for the money so  just give me the CASH

When I first started doing “surveys” online to make a little bit of money, I didn’t know much of anything about anything so I had pretty low expectations.

But now, after doing it for a while, and having learned “in the school of hard knocks” as it were,  there are certain things that I look for in a “good” survey site.  And things which you should look for too.  So, pull up a chair grasshopper and learn from Master Yoda, ahem Tony.  “Master Tony”  — and you folks in the back can stop laughing like, uhm now!

For the record: MintVine does almost ALL of the things on my “Ideal Survey Site Checklist”!  And they do them well.

I know that I’m wordy… …so if you’ve got enough info already

Low Payout Threshold

This is why MintVine gets 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars.  The MintVine payout threshold is $10.

Which is pretty darn good when Read the rest of this entry

Good Customer Service is a rare thing and should be applauded…

…so I want to brag on a local company who did more than the right thing!

I just had the most awesome experience and I want to share it with you because service like this is so rare and when it happens the story should be shouted from the rooftops.

The bottom line:

I highly recommend City Mattress Factory (http://www.citymattressfactory.com/)  They are located at 900 Haltom Road, Fort Worth, TX 76117

Here’s why:

Futon

This is the frame that I’m getting. Called “Southwest” I’m getting it in “Mocha” which is basically what they call “black” LOL

I live on a very small income consisting of my monthly TMRS pension check and whatever money I can make by picking up odd jobs here and there.

To give you a perspective, a tank of gas is a major outlay.  No kidding, no exaggeration.  At the end of the month there is usually under $10 in my checking account and I get real creative with the food budget all month long to make ends meet.

So…buying furniture is not something that is normally in the budget.  However, two weeks ago, when I sold a PA sound system, I decided to use the windfall and replace my queen sized mattress and box springs with a Loveseat sized futon with ottoman.

Having a futon makes a lot more sense for me than a regular bed because, due to my sleep apnea, I sleep sitting up and have to use a bunch of pillows to keep me upright.  A futon with an ottoman fixes that problem. Also because I rent a room from my best friend.  Most of the time I’m in my bedroom, which fuctions as my “home office” and my “living room” as well.

The futon will serve as both sitting and sleeping where a bed is just for sleeping.  A bed takes up so much space and is only used 8 hours out of every 24.  A futon will take up much less space during the day, is more useful more of the time both during the day and during the night.

So I started Read the rest of this entry
