Beginning Line Dance Class: Come Learn “Breaking Hearts”

Continuing the “Party Match Up” Series…

Line Dance at DanceMakers of TexasOne of the things I try very hard to do is to select line dances which match up with a “Couples” dance style.

I choose dances where the choreography of the dance is done to distinct types of music which correspond to the couples dance styles: Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Rumba, Tango, Night Club Two Step, Polka, Salsa, etc.

Why? Because finding a place to actually DANCE the line dances that you learn in class is HARD!  Of course you can always dance in your kitchen or living room or even on the front porch.  The neighbors might talk about that “crazy person” down the block, but you could do it.

DanceMakers has two “Practice Parties” each month.  In Feb they will be on Feb 10th and Feb 24th, 8pm – 9:30 pm.

Psssssstttt… don’t tell anyone but a line dance does NOT have to be danced to the original song!!!!  Shhhh…it is our secret.  🙂

So….to use this week’s dance as an example, when you’re at the Practice Party, and a “Cha Cha” comes on, you can jump out in the middle of the floor and start doing “Breaking Hearts” the dance that we’ll review/learn on Tue.  As you dance, use good dance floor etiquette and be aware of the other dancers on the floor so that everyone can enjoy their style of dance, both couples and line.

So, come on out, join the fun, and learn this awesome “Cha-Cha” on Tuesday, Jan 31st at 6pm

  • Have fun!
  • Meet new people.
  • Use this pattern to practice basic Cha-Cha technique and improve your couples dancing.
  • Exercise!
  • And… HAVE LOTS OF FUN!

Wow, what a fun month it has been!  And it isn’t over yet!!!  Woot!  We have one more night left in August: Tue, Aug 30th at 6pm at DanceMakers of Texas

Sooooo….we’ll review the three UCWDC Competition Line Dances we’ve learned.  Woo Hoo!!!

For those students who are new this month to the class, a “review” night is where we briefly go over each dance.

We have three dances… and 50 minutes… so that works out to … [uhmmmm….calculating…doing hard math…. LOL] about 15 minutes per dance.  So be sure to check out these videos and links:

About these three dances…

Line Dancers in the Plaza-opacity 03-RESIZEDThese three dances are the UCWDC Newcomer Level competition dances for 2016-2017.

There are not one, but two UCWDC events held here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where, if you choose, you could compete, using these dances:

Also, two of the three dances use music which “Couples Dancers” will recognize:

  • Cha-Cha
  • Night Club Two-Step

The line dances incorporate basic footwork from those two styles thus these dances are an EXCELLENT PRACTICE DRILL for Couples Dancers who wish to have a way to practice fundamentals on their own.

Line Dance Class – When & Where:

This week: learn a line dance classic! “Hideaway Cha!”

Blast from the Past this Week: “Hideaway Cha”

One of the things as a line dancer that I find most frustrating is finding a place and time to learn the “oldie but goodie” dances.

You know the ones that I’m talking about?  Dances that are “classics” that all the other dancers seem to know but are never taught anywhere?

Well, I made a promise to myself that when I began teaching dance that periodically I would teach “older” dances.  That way, new folks would have a chance to learn them and dancers who have been around for a while would have a chance to re-learn them if they’ve gotten a bit rusty on one or two steps…

So… [drum roll please] I present to you this week’s dance:  Hideaway Cha!

Here is a demo of the dance:

Dance: Hideaway Cha

Choreographers: Joanne Brady, Jamie Marshall & Jo Thompson Szymanski

Come learn “Can’t Stop Dancing (EZ)” – danced to a fun Justin Timberlake song!

Check out this awesome new song from Justin Timberlake

I really REALLY REALLY like the song from Justin Timberlake called “Can’t Stop the Feeling

I double dog dare ya to listen to this song and not tap your foot or “chair dance” or wiggle your booty, or bust some kind of move!

It is a fun upbeat bouncy bit of cotton candy awesomeness that just demands that you dance to it!  Woot

Check out the music video:

Want the song?  Get it here…

Ooodles and Ooodles of dances from which to choose…

I spotted the video for the song (up above) on my Facebook feed and thought it was awesome.  So, I hopped over to Copperknob and checked to see if anyone had created a line dance for it and… [drum roll please] …there are, as I type this TWENTY-TWO LINE DANCES FOR THIS SONG!!!  OH-EM-GEE!

About a dozen of those are in the Absolute Beginner through Improver range.  Of them, the one that I think is the best is one that is choreographed by a lady who lives locally here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, in Richardson, named Juliet Lam.

I chose her dance because (1) it was the best of the AB through Imp dances and (2) since she is local, if you should hear this song at a club or party and there are other line dancers there, this line dance is the one that is most likely that will be danced in the DFW area.

Here is a demo of the dance:
