March Line Classes will feature “Easy Party Dances”

March Line Classes will feature
🎉🎈Easy Party Dances 🎈🎉

partydancesThere are four “regular” classes in “March” — Feb 28th, Mar 7th, 14th, and 21st.

All this month we will feature very easy “Party Dances” — Line Dances which can be danced to ANY song of that style.

These “Party Dances” match up with couples dance styles, which make them perfect to use in our Friday Night Practice Parties at DanceMakers.

Also they can be used in any social situation where you do not have a dance partner but want to dance. Most of them are all considered “Ultra-Beginner” or “Absolute Beginner” dances. A couple will be Beginner or Low Beginner level.

And because they contain both basic “Line Dance” steps which match up to basic “Couples Dance” steps they make an excellent practice tool for Couples Dancers who want to practice basic footwork.

  • Waltz – example: Rita’s Waltz — which we learned in Feb
  • Cha Cha – example: Cowboy Cha-Chawhich we will learn tonight, Feb 28th
  • Merengue – example: Ah Si,which we will learn tonight, Feb 28th (probably)

Other dance styles that we’ll definitely cover this month include:

  • East Coast
  • West Coast
  • Foxtrot
  • Tango
  • Rumba

And, depending on how quickly everyone learns the dances, we might even learn line dances that fit:

  • Double Two / Progressive / Triple Two
  • Night Club Two

So, this is going to be an exciting month!

Mark your calendars!  — March 28th will be a special “Workshop Class” — stay tuned for for details….

Line Dancers Having Fun

This week: learn a line dance classic! “Hideaway Cha!”

Blast from the Past this Week: “Hideaway Cha”

One of the things as a line dancer that I find most frustrating is finding a place and time to learn the “oldie but goodie” dances.

You know the ones that I’m talking about?  Dances that are “classics” that all the other dancers seem to know but are never taught anywhere?

Well, I made a promise to myself that when I began teaching dance that periodically I would teach “older” dances.  That way, new folks would have a chance to learn them and dancers who have been around for a while would have a chance to re-learn them if they’ve gotten a bit rusty on one or two steps…

So… [drum roll please] I present to you this week’s dance:  Hideaway Cha!

Here is a demo of the dance:

Dance: Hideaway Cha

Choreographers: Joanne Brady, Jamie Marshall & Jo Thompson Szymanski

Info: 32 Count / 4 Wall / Easy “Low” Intermediate

Music: Dance With Me / by Debelah Morgan

“World Championships” mean it’s time to plan for the coming Competition Year

2011 UCWDC Country Dance World Championships XIXHeat # 55, bringing to the floor in Male Newcomer Pro-Ams, number 442 dancing with his pro….”

“Now for the dance of love…  Polka!”

“Remember gentlemen, you’re supposed to gaze lovingly at her during the night club”

“Let’s hear it for our dancers”  *applause*

“And in first place, our new World Champion in Male Newcomer Open…”

Ah, the sounds of competition at the UCWDC Country Dance World Championships, “Worlds” for short.  The World Championships are held the first week of January each year and there are dancers from all over the world competing.  This year it is in Orlando Florida.  The dancers at the event have been working all year long toward this final event of the year, the culmination of 12 months of effort.

Just so you know, Worlds XX is actually going on right now; right this very minute in fact.    I’m watching the Female Starter B and Female Newcomer Pro-Am competition right now as I type this, streaming live from GlobalDance.TV.  They are just finishing Night Club and then they’ll do Cha-Cha, followed by the Waltz heats.

A peek into the life of a competitive dancer…

Polka Party Album Cover (CC)

I haven’t posted a lot here on my blog about dancing; most of my posts have been more focused on getting healthy.  So here’s a “dancing” post for your enjoyment.

A couple of days ago I sent an email to my dance partner.  We have a big dance competition coming up.  It is the Dallas Dance Festival and it is widely considered to be the largest UCWDC Country Western Competition Dance Event in the US other than the World Championships.  I know that a lot of dancers treat it as something of a “dress rehearsal” for Worlds.  Anyway, so much for the background, now back to the email.

I realized that we only had six practices left before the competition so I thought “Hey, I’d better do some thinking about what needs the most work and figure out a tentative ‘schedule’ and send it to my partner to see what she thinks”.  Create a “Game Plan” in other words.

She thought what I wrote was funny, printed it out and brought it to the dance studio to show the other dancers and our coaches.  Everyone was amused, and then one of the coaches said to my partner “That’s funny, he should start a blog.”  Well, since I already *have*a blog, and a couple other dancers also thought it was amusing, I thought I’d share it here with the dozen folks who are actually reading this blog.  Enjoy!
