Trauma, Drama, and challenges this week… …wish me success!

Morning Trauma

omron pedometerI can’t find my Omron Pedometer.  It is gone.  And I’ve gotten used to wearing it every day.

In fact is now part of my “morning routine” to put it on.  Which is a problem.  What I’m doing in this “Journey to Health & Fitness” is one, by one, setting up good habits, rituals, routines, replacing old patterns of behavior with new, better ones.

And to do that requires repetition.  Lots of repetition.  And until the “new” becomes “habit” and the “habit” becomes ironclad rock solid do-it-without-thinking-about-what-you-are-doing type behavior, any deviation can be deadly and devastating.

And it bugs me.  A lot. — I’m actually AMAZED at how much it is bugging me.  I’ve rouned up all the usual suspects and put them in the line-up:  under the edge of the bed, under the edge of the desk, under the edge of the kitchen cabinets, inside the pocket(s) of the clothes I wore yesterday.

I’ve even canvased the neighborhood (literally) — I went out on my balcony and the bridge that crosses the court yard and looked at the sidewalk and the stairs to see if I could see it lying there.

2014.05.03 4.50 AM — My Come to Jesus moment

In a bit I’ll put on shoes and go look in my truck to see if it fell out of my pocket yesterday when I went on an errand.  And I’ll check the laundry room to see if it fell out there while I was doing clothes.

BUT IT bugs the crap out me that I am not wearing it!

Recording that little number into the spreadsheet each morning from the day before was an act of validation.  It is/was actual numerical quantifiable proof that I was indeed MOVING my body!

siiiiiiiggggghhhh

I hope I find it.  I don’t want to have to buy a new one.  Buying a new one isn’t in the budget.

What’s on the Jenny Craig Menu? And other perplexing conundrums

Questions I get about Jenny Craig

People are curious.  That is a good thang.

Texas flag on globe(Editor’s note:  For English speakers outside of the Southern region of the United states…  “Thang” is the way in which Southerners, particularly those from the region known as “Texas” pronounce “thing” — We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog post.)

I get a lot questions about “Jenny Craig”  So, in the interest of edumacating the general POP-u-lus, …

(Editor’s note:  Again the writer is using non-standard English grammar and spelling to emphasis a particular point.  In this case by deliberately misusing and misspelling the word educating, and stressing particular syllables through the use of incorrect capitalization and punctuation, the writer displays his expert writing skills, his expansive knowledge of proper grammar, and his mastery of the spell check software feature, thus he cho0ses to pasquinade those who might be colloquially referred to as “grammar snobs.”)

…I’m going to answer some of the more common questions I get from friends and people reading this blog:

“Is the Jenny Craig food any good? How does it taste?”

Man Eating and SmilingWell, friends, neighbors, and dearest readers, all 12 of you who actually follow this blog, “Yes, the food is good.”  It is real food and it is very very tasty.

Trust me, if the food didn’t taste good then I would not stick with the program.  There are even deserts and snacks.  My favorites are the Triple Chocolate Cheesecake and the Key-Lime Pie. Both VERY Yummy!

The only “Jenny Craig Food” that I really don’t care for on the Jenny Menu is the soups.  The Jenny Craig soups taste very bland to me.

The chilli is good, but the soups–not so much.  I buy my soups from the regular grocery store. Read the rest of this entry

The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men…

You will, of course, recognize the reference if not the specific quote.   It is a line from from Robert Burns‘ poem “To a Mouse on Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough.”  The line which inspired the title of Steinbeck’s famous novel “Of Mice and Men.”

Now what does all that have to do with little ole me?  Well, I had every intention of starting 2013 off on the right foot.  I had scheduled a Jenny Craig appointment at Noon on Monday the 7th, my very FIRST day back from Worlds.  I had a physical trainer appointment scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, which I’m going to miss.  I had not one but two teaches scheduled where I was actually *making* money teaching dance scheduled for Wed and for Thursday, again which I had to cancel.

On the to do list was to give the kitchen, the stove and the fridge a good scouring, all as a kick off to the new year and the first steps on the road to the new transformed me.
