Big D Bash and Pro-Am Line Dance
What the heck is “ProAm Line Dance?”
Hi everybody! Big D Bash is coming up fast. There are only 32 days before the event. Big D Bash is unique on the UCWDC circuit in that it is a “Line Dance only” event. No couples. No ProAm… we’ll almost no ProAm.
There is a little known category of dance competition called “ProAm Line Dance.” Here is how it works:
- You find an instructor (like me).
- You find some friends (optional, but it makes it a lot more fun)
- You and the instructor (and friends?) pick out a line dance and the instructor teaches it to you and/or coaches you. Any line dance at all! Did you catch that? You get to dance any line dance you want to dance!!!!
- You enter the contest. Here’s the “Pro/Am” part:
The instructor dances on the floor in the competition with you! You’re not out there all alone!
So if you get stuck or your mind goes blank, then you have someone to look at other than the other competitors. - You have a great time, you win cool prizes, accolades, applause, you’re invited to be on Oprah and the Tonight show! You become famous and retire and spend your weekends in the French Rivera. (that last bit is still being verified, but it’s what I heard! *wink*)
Basically it is a way for people who are “thinking” of doing line dance to get over that scary leap into the unknown: “Eeeeeeeek, you mean I won’t have a Pro to hang onto? Eeeeeeeeeek!”
We’ll you won’t actually be able to hang onto me, but I’ll be there on the floor with you so I’m your “emergency fallback plan.” *grin*
So, if you’d like to try out line dance competition in a fun, easy, inexpensive way, then give me a shout!
Everybody should line dance — Especially ProAm “Couples” Students !
Line dancing is fun! But, if you need more reasons, let me share. *grin*

After a week of drama in Nashville, “New World Champion” sounds pretty good!
Worlds was a Roller Coaster Week
For those who like it brief… First the two big bits of news:
1. My dance partner and I won the Couples Silver II division and we are brand new “World Champions”
2. I won a spot on the US Team to attend the WDSF World DanceSport Games to be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in Sept 2013.
Those of course would be a couple of “high spots” on the proverbial roller coaster. I had fun, of course but since when has my life ever been a drama free zone? Hmmmm?

Finding Good Triple Two Step Music
Music for “Triple Two Step”
Finding good music for a particular genre of dance is often very hard to do. In this post, you’ll find some basic information on “Triple Two Step” and some sample videos so you can see it for yourself what the dance looks like.
If you do a Google search you’ll come up with a lot of possibilities and trust me on this, a lot of them are garbage. Bleech!
So I’ve created a page of some good ones. What? Do I sense some skepticism from the teeming masses? Fear not gentle readers, the songs have been reviewed by my Inner Domestic Diva and they have met with her approval! You can check out the page at Triple Two Step Music — Song List
This list of songs is complied from a variety of sources found on the Internet, including ones from my own library and suggestions from the readers of this blog. You can follow the links on the list to hear previews of the songs and buy your own copy if you like it. And if you do buy a song or CD, then I get a couple of pennies commission. Right now I just have the Amazon Links in place. I’ll have links to iTunes on the list soon.
SAVINGS TIP: Get the CD. A lot of the CDs on Amazon are priced under a dollar. And you get a whole set of songs. Yes, you have to pay postage, but the cost per song is much lower than downloading one song at a time.

Travel Tips and Tricks to Competitive Dancing “On the Cheap”
In a recent post, Dancing: How much does it cost?, I described a sliding scale listing the costs of dancing which can range from almost zero up to thousands of dollars per year.
This is the first post in a series that will offer some suggestions on how to save money and make your competitive dancing as inexpensive as possible.
Start Small
So, you’ve taken a few dance lessons and you coach says “Hey have you ever considered competing?”. Well I have good news for you friends, neighbors and the six people who are actually reading this blog — <drum roll please> — It doesn’t have to cost you an arm or a leg. True, if you want, you can go all out, spend lots of money, then get a second mortgage or dip into little Monty’s college fund to support your dance habit, but then again, you can do it for a very reasonable amount. The Texas Hoedown — Scrapbook Scribblings
Welcome to my “Scrapbook Scribbles” for the Texas Hoedown (March 23-25). You’ll find jottings and photos which, in no particular order, describe all the fun from last weekend at the Texas Hoedown, first stop on the ACDA circuit.
- I love the Texas Hoedown because it is so very laid back and friendly. Virginia and Jerry, the event owners are awesome folks and they work overtime to make everyone feel welcome. And I love being with other folks who love dancing as much as I do; the Hoedown is a “must attend event” for people in the Southwest. It is the first big event of the year and is something of a family reunion where you get to see friends you haven’t seen since the end of last year’s dance season. The Hoedown is an awesome experience and lots of fun.

I was on the Line Dance Staff and have a cool name badge that says “Instructor” as a souvenir. Hey, it’s cool to me! 🙂
