Good Customer Service is a rare thing and should be applauded…

…so I want to brag on a local company who did more than the right thing!

I just had the most awesome experience and I want to share it with you because service like this is so rare and when it happens the story should be shouted from the rooftops.

The bottom line:

I highly recommend City Mattress Factory (http://www.citymattressfactory.com/)  They are located at 900 Haltom Road, Fort Worth, TX 76117

Here’s why:

Futon

This is the frame that I’m getting. Called “Southwest” I’m getting it in “Mocha” which is basically what they call “black” LOL

I live on a very small income consisting of my monthly TMRS pension check and whatever money I can make by picking up odd jobs here and there.

To give you a perspective, a tank of gas is a major outlay.  No kidding, no exaggeration.  At the end of the month there is usually under $10 in my checking account and I get real creative with the food budget all month long to make ends meet.

So…buying furniture is not something that is normally in the budget.  However, two weeks ago, when I sold a PA sound system, I decided to use the windfall and replace my queen sized mattress and box springs with a Loveseat sized futon with ottoman.

Having a futon makes a lot more sense for me than a regular bed because, due to my sleep apnea, I sleep sitting up and have to use a bunch of pillows to keep me upright.  A futon with an ottoman fixes that problem. Also because I rent a room from my best friend.  Most of the time I’m in my bedroom, which fuctions as my “home office” and my “living room” as well.

The futon will serve as both sitting and sleeping where a bed is just for sleeping.  A bed takes up so much space and is only used 8 hours out of every 24.  A futon will take up much less space during the day, is more useful more of the time both during the day and during the night.

Random thoughts from my Walk in the Park

I partook in the “activity that shall not be named…”

tired puppyYes, the evil e-word!

I’m really really tired at the moment so here is a very brief series of random thoughts about today’s walk.

  • Runkeeper does not work that well at tracking location when you don’t have “true GPS.”  It attempts to use the closest WiFi network and establish your location but …
  • According to RunKeeper I walked over 2 miles.  Yeh, RIGHT!  try more like 1/2 miles.  (see below)
  • I saw a dead snake.
  • I saw an empty water bottle that someone threw on the grass instead of the trashcan. I was too tired to bend over and pick it up so it is still there.
  • So is the dead snake.
  • I am TIRED.
  • I may have to have two rest days before my next walk.  Starting out at the BEGINNING I was waddling, limping, and moving slow.  The climb up the stairs to my apartment was NOT FUN AT ALL.

Walk in the park 2014-05-05_11-15-46

  • My feet are throbbing right now.  Literally throbbing.
  • My lower back is not too happy with me either.
  • My knees though don’t seem to be having any issues.
  • My legs are sore – very sore
  • There are some VERY cute guys in my neighborhood…  and no, I’m never too tired to notice a cute guy… if I don’t check out the guy, then check my pulse and breathing to make sure I’m still on this side of the pearly gates.
  • I met one of my neighbors.  She’s an OU fan.  Actually she married into an OU family.  His truck is red / Maroon.  Go figure.  (I was wearing my OU cap which is why the subject came up)
  • The lock on the pedestrian entrance in the security fence needs to be lubricated.  It is very stiff.  SNORT.  I said “lubricated” and “stiff” in the same sentence.  LOL
  • I need to get a duplicate key made (for the pedestrian gate door thingie)  The same key that opens that gate also unlocks the laundry room.  I don’t want to loose the laundry room key and have to ask mgmt for another.
  • Plus, since I have my house key on one key ring and the laundry key on another well I’m carrying two keyrings.  If I get the duplicate gate key made then I can add it to the duplicate/spare house key that has become my “carry it with me when I’m walking key”
  • I’m using my Club Bolo Key ring which is WAY COOL!   “Howdy de Texas mon Club Bolo amis de Montréal”
  • I really do live on the side of a friggin hill.  And the park is downhill from the apartment.  Ugh.
  • My back is twinging.  I think I need to take some tylenol or advil or something.. which one is better for muscles?  Yes, friends, walking just 1/2 mile did this.  I’m out of shape remember?

BUT…

I …

FRIGGIN …

DID IT!!!

Applause!  I demand accolades and Atta boys and flower petals threwn in my direction.  (Is “threwn” a word?)  My spell check doesn’t think so.. But I’m overruling it

Definitely need that Tylenol…

See ya on the dance floor . . .

. . . EVENTUALLY when my body can handle it, but IT will happen.

Ask and Yee Shall Receive… …photos and a video!

Since you asked…

Tony at Peker's

One of my readers emailed and requested that I post a recent photo of me and a recent video of me dancing. Who am I to deny my teeming hordes of readers such enjoyment (all four of you who read this blog … five if you count my Mom).

Anyway….

The photo over to the right was taken by a very nice guy (whose name I can’t remember) who is a regular at the local “corner bar” I hang out at when I want to have a beer or two and have the extra cash to actually do so.

The name of the bar is Pekers and I even blogged about it in one of my posts: As the Boots Turn…

I really like the bar. I don’t go there a lot now that I’m unemployed. *sigh* However it’s a great bar!

Pekers is one of those local places where you just go in and everybody knows you, at least casually and you can just relax and have a beer, play a video game, and if you’re in the mood, have a conversation or a couple of laughs.

Here are a few more photos, all from the 2013 World Championships (Jan 2013)…

“As the Boots Turn” #3: An Episode of Road Rage (almost)

Traffic Cat is not amused (CC)[cue the music, roll the opening credits, cue the announcer]

We join our intrepid hero as he is headed to dance practice.  He approaches his trusty stead, a new Toyota Tacoma named “Tonks” on which he has only made three payments.

Smiling in anticipation of the drive, he carefully buckles up, adjusts the mirrors, looks behind and on both sides before backing out of the parking space, at the edge of the lot of course…we don’t want Tonks to get scratched up!

Approaching the exit to the parking lot, he slows, carefully looks both ways, and shifts into second, thus venturing out into the badlands… …otherwise known as the byways and highways of Dallas/Fort Worth.  (Roads, streets and freeways for those who haven’t had coffee yet and didn’t catch the literary allusion!) 😉

Once out of the parking lot and onto the road he immediately encounters that orneriest of the ornery, the meanest of the mean, the rudest of the rude, the Scourge of the South, the nastiest critter in all of the West… a careless, distracted, self-obsessed driver, whereupon we hear our beleaguered hero declaim:

Oh no she did-uhnt!”

Thus with a shake of his head and a well-timed Quadruple *SNAP* in Z formation, our intrepid hero begins his journey across town…. …only time will tell if he succumbs to base emotions and flips someone the bird along the way.

When Did Inconsiderate Driving Become Routine?!!!!

The Bird (CC)I’ve noticed a strange thing on the roads over the past couple of years.  People are becoming routinely rude, inconsiderate and self-obsessed.  Not everyone, of course; one must be careful with generalizations –there are still a range of drivers with behaviors running the gamut from steering wheel gripping beasts in the midst of a road rage episode to those who are friendly, courteous and law-abiding.  But on the whole, the percentage of rude inconsiderate nuts on the road is definitely increasing.  The ratio is shifting and not in a good direction.  For those seeking real research and “just the facts” skip down to the Related Links and Articles section at the bottom of the post.

“As the Boots Turn” #2, Sleep, Stress, and Number Two

Cat - Cowboy 04 (CC)[cue the intro music, roll the opening credits, cue the voice over]

At the end of yesterday’s episode,  the hero of our tale had just paid a visit to the local watering hole.  Feeling refreshed and generously buying a beer for the fella at the end of the bar, he left and headed off to deal with Number Two.

[cut the dramatic music with a screeching crashing sound effect; zoom in close on the  face of our hero as he rides his trusty steed… …Uhmmm… drives his Toyota Tacoma about the streets of Dallas Texas]

“It is “Number two on the LIST! you idiot!  Cut!  Can someone get the voice over guy a script!?!?   Maybe he can learn his lines before the next take?!?!   Sheesh.  Ok, everybody back to their start positions!  Quickly, quickly, we’re losing the light and we’re over budget!”

Doth quoth our hero and director and screen writer!  🙂

Resting, Sleeping, and Repairing the damage…

When my life changed so dramatically and I was no longer going into work five days a week, the thing that hit me like a smack in the face, was just how tired I was.  We’re not talking “oh, I’m feeling a little peaked.”   We’re talking a… Read the rest of this entry
