Step by Step…

Iz to do'z done yetz? I can haz tummy rubz nao? ©2011

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to priorities lately.  And choices.  And stress.  And “to do lists”.  And how much or how little time we actually have in a given week.  And how much control over our lives or rather how little control we may or may not have.  And money or the lack thereof.  And what I’d like my life to look like.

OMG!!!  I’m having a mid-life crisis!

Eeeeeeeekkkkkk!

*PANT*  #GASP#  “I need bon-bons!”  Where’s my fuzzy slippers and my tiarra?!

*Ahem*  Sorry about that, my inner Drama Diva took possession of me for a moment.  In all seriousness, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to basically three ideas which are intertwined:

1. Being healthy, living healthy is HARD.

2. Being healthy, living healthy takes TIME, lots of it.

3. Everything is connected to EVERYTHING

Which means friends and neighbors that if you make living healthy a priority, then it is going to take time, it is going to be hard and it is going to affect everything!  So, that’s where the “start with something small” comes in.  And celebrate every completed goal, even the smallest of who’s.  Oh, sorry, wrong story. Smallest of Goals is what I meant!  [a moment aside….  Those who are new to my blog and who didn’t get that I just alluded to the character of Cindy Lou, one of the smallest Who’s in the Christmas story “The grinch who stole Christmas“…  well stick around a while.  Soon my world will seem normal and everyone else will seem weird and yes, to those who are interested, that really is how my mind works. So, back to the topic at hand.  Read the rest of this entry

Sometimes life gets in the way of living…

Detour Sign (CC)Ah… the proverbial path littered with “good intentions”.  I know thee well.  It’s been about two weeks since I’ve posted.

First some housekeeping:  I’m still trying to get back into the groove and routine of being on Jenny Craig.  Notice that I said “trying”.  *sigh*  More on that in another post.  Second, I’ll try to catch up the weekly progress photos and charts this weekend.  I took the photos and I have the data but haven’t had time to post them yet.  There is no real visible difference yet in the photos and alas, my net weight remains almost the same. 😦

The big news and the reason I’ve been not blogging is that I’ve had drama in my life: things going on at work,  a couple unexpected car repairs and, dealing with the realization that I can’t afford to do ProAms at the UCWDC World Championships in Jan.  Ugh.  Bleech even!  Paatooie!  With all that, I’ve not had a lot of time for the blog.

UCWDC Logo (TM)I haven’t talked a lot yet about dancing here on the blog.  So a bit of background for those of you who are not into the sport of Country Western Dancing: “ProAm” is a concatenation of two words: Professional and Amateur.  The ProAm division is where a Coach or “Professional” dancer teams up with a student or “Amateur” dancer.  Both dance together on the floor during the competition, however, only the student is judged in the competition and receives a score.  The Pro’s job is to be on the floor with the student, dancing, and try to make the student look as good as possible and to help them out, if possible, during any glitches…things like the student forgetting what comes next in the routine.  Not that has EVER happened to me!    If you believe that then send me your credit cards and your bank account routing number so that I can deposit a kabillion-zillion dollars into your account. 😉

Anyway… I do digress at times don’t I?  Moving on…  So, when I say that “I can’t do ProAms at Worlds”, this… Is. A. BIG. DEAL!.  *sigh*   Read the rest of this entry

New Jenny Craig Tips and Tricks

While I was fixing breakfast this morning I thought of some more tips and tricks that have helped me so far.  Check out my earlier tips by clicking on “Jenny Craig Tips and Tricks” under the “Diet and Fitness Drama” up in the header at the top of this page.

Jenny Craig Sunshine Sandwich (TM)

When preparing the Sunshine Sandwich, nuke, ahem, microwave the sandwich according to the instructions but before putting the sauce on the sandwich, put the English Muffin in the toaster for just a bit.  This firms them up and adds a bit of crunch to the sandwich making it a more enjoyable eating experience.

When spreading the sauce on the Sunshine Sandwich put the sauce on the bread, not the egg or meat.  The texture of the muffin keeps the sauce in place while you spread it evenly across the bread.  Putting it on the egg or meat is putting it on a smoother surface and the knife will just push it around in clumps making getting an even spread of sauce more difficult.. .

Chopped Bananas (CC)

When having a fruit like a banana for breakfast, chop it up into a lot of small chunks and eat it with a fork.

This makes it feel more like a meal instead of a snack because you are increasing the number of bites you’re taking and you’re using the fork instead of your fingers.  Fingers = snack in my twisted brain while fork = meal.  Go figure.  😉

See ya on the dance floor!

2011-07-28, Week 2, Weekly Stats

At my Jenny Craig weigh-in yesterday, I lost 2.2 lbs from the week before.   However, my weight at home was pretty much flat.  A tiny increase in weight and body fat.  That is strange.  Usually the loss ration is about the same with my weight at home being a steady 3-4 lbs less than at Jenny Craig, because at Jenny, I wear clothes and at home I don’t when I weigh-in.

This coming week will tell the tale.  I go full force onto the Jenny Craig menu, following it exactly, weighing and measuring everything.

Here are this weeks’ charts:

Getting Healthy is complicated and it takes time… …lots of time!

Stressed out man pulling hair (CC)Ever wish that you could just have three months off from your life to get your life organized?

Yep, I thought that might resonate.  🙂  Loosing weight is complicated because life is complicated.  Life throws curve balls.  And when you are trying to do something as fundamental as “get healthy”  it means that every part of your life is either affected by the effort or affects the effort.  In other words your whole life changes, not just a tiny bit of it.

Using myself as a case study of one in time management…

Stay with me here, you’re about to follow a chain of thought and interconnections and since this basically is inviting you inside “Tony’s Head” the experience could be frightening.  😉

Step one..the starting point.  THE GOAL <drumroll please> is to be fit and healthy.  For me, that means loosing weight, becoming more flexible, increasing my cardiovascular capacity, increasing muscle mass.

However, this immediately connects with and to some degree conflicts with other top level goals.    I dance.  I love to dance.  I enjoy competing in dance.  To dance requires that I have some disposable income for lessons, practice fees, travel expenses to attend competitions, more cash to pay for my pro’s travel expenses to attend the competitions to dance with me, costumes, and dance shoes.

Which means I need a job.  Or a sugar daddy.  (The sugar daddy position currently is vacant…applications now being accepted.  I think I could easily get used to being a kept man.

Ok, so I need a job not only to pay for my dance habit but to pay other things like food, Read the rest of this entry
