In search of the perfect night’s sleep…

Perfect?  Did I say “perfect”?  I’d settle for “Mostly OK”

Iz nots sleepinzzz...! I iz "vizualizin' mai dance routeens" ©One of the items on my “10-Point-Plan” to “Transform Tony in 2013” is #1 Get plenty of sleep every night.

Easier said than done!   However, talking about sleep is a good way to emphasis and reinforce the ongoing theme that Getting Fit and Healthy is complex because “EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING!

Sleep is important and most definitely connected to everything else in your life.  Without consistent restful sleep, getting fit and healthy is almost impossible.

brunostWithout meaning to whine and moan, or act like a pampered diva….  But, since we’re mentioning “diva”  could I please have some cheese with my Whine?  Hmmm?

Oh, did you hear about that cheese truck fire that took days to put out?  I kid you not!!!!

Holy Cheesus!  Who knew?

Anyway in Norway where this cheese is made there was a truck accident in a tunnel and the load of cheese, called Brunost caught fire and burned for days.

But…  I digress…  Back to the whole sleep thing…. Read the rest of this entry

Renewed Progress…

Just the Stats, M’am, just the stats…

ai haz a happee! ©I renewed my fitness efforts just after Thanksgiving and have continued on track since then.  Here are the results so far:

  • 7.25 lbs lost
  • 5.25 inches lost (chest/hips/waist)

That has been with me doing only two things: (1) being more aware of the foods I eat and making better choices (not perfect, but better) and (2) increasing the amount of exercise that I’ve been doing.  Mostly increased dancing as I got ready for Christmas in Dixie and for the World Championships.

Not too shabby a start for 2013!  This is my year!

I just hope that I get over this flu bug enough so that I can to to my first day of Ballet Class on Saturday.

See ya on the dance floor!

Paradigm Shift — “There is no spoon”

Exclamation Point (CC)I said something remarkable yesterday and it wasn’t until about five minutes later that I realized the import and of what I had said:

When I’ve lost the weight…

Just so there’s no misunderstanding, and because I can never say something in 10 words when a 100 will do, I need to elaborate and explain.  The importance of this phrase lies in that there are no qualifiers.  It is a simple declarative statement that says what will happen.  The path from A to Z is assured and will occur:

When the rain stops…

When winter is over…

When the sun comes up…

When Jupiter appears in the sky close to the full moon…

When Mars appears to move backwards in its orbit…

Or on a more human level… Read the rest of this entry

I lost my job…and turned into a bear…kinda, sorta

I am now a statistic: I’m Unemployed.

Eleven days ago, I lost my job.  And being unemployed affects everything including one’s health.  Those eleven days have been a flurry of activity doing all the things that one does when one looses their job:

  • Applied for unemployment benefits — I don’t know yet whether I’ll get them.  When I log onto the Texas Workforce Commission’s website the status still says “TWC is reviewing your claim to determine if we can pay you benefits. If we need additional information, we will contact you.”  *sigh*
    ..
Not knowing whether or not I’ll get any unemployment benefit checks, I assumed “worst case scenario” — that I won’t and started making plans:
    ..
  • Pre-paid as many bills as possible.  — There are certain things that I’ll have to have if the worst happens I’m going to be out of work for  a while:  medications, rent on storage unit, cell phone, internet connection, car insurance...

Recommended Reading: Stretching by Bob Anderson

Stretching by Bob Anderson << HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! 🙂

Note from lil ole me: If you can afford to buy only one book, then buy this one.  If you can’t afford to buy it then get it through a library.   I used this book so much that I wore out my first copy and had to buy a replacement.   No matter what sport you do, there are stretches for it in this book. There are also general purpose stretches included as well. And it starts from a zero knowledge base which means they explain everything in simple terms. VERY WELL DONE! 🙂

streching coverDescription from Amazon.com: ISBN-10: 0936070463 This is the book that people tell their friends about, that trainers suggest for virtually every sport and activity, and that medical professionals recommend to people just starting to get back in shape. Stretching first appeared in 1980 as a new generation of Americans became committed to running, cycling, aerobic training, and workouts in the gym — all of which are commonplace now.
